Typical Process and Average Costs for Pediatric Occupational Therapy in Montreal

Professional support for your child’s functioning and parents’ mental health

Typically, a pediatric occupational therapy assessment takes place over several sessions. From the initial contact, assessment, and report to follow-up appointments with the child, everything is done in communication with the parents to ensure a clear and transparent process. Here's how appointments are usually scheduled:


Virtual meeting with parents: Free

Initial contact: $180 CAD

Assessment and report: $500 CAD

Report discussion (OPTIONAL): $80 CAD per 30 minutes

Follow-up appointments: $160 CAD

Virtual meeting with parents

Type of rencontre: Virtuel

Durée: 20 minutes

 

Objectif : Établir un premier contact avec les parents afin de recueillir des informations pertinentes sur le développement, les habitudes de vie et les besoins de l’enfant, ainsi que de présenter le processus d’évaluation en ergothérapie.

Initial session with the child

Type of meeting: In person

Duration: 50 minutes of direct intervention and 10 minutes of documentation

 

Main objective: To establish initial contact with the child and their family.

 

Specific objectives:

  1. To build a trusting relationship with the child to encourage their participation and reduce anxiety related to the assessment.

  2. To observe motor, sensory, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills through play-based or guided activities.

  3. To identify the child's strengths and challenges in their daily functioning (school, play, personal care, etc.).

  4. To adapt assessment tools and approaches according to the child's age, abilities, and needs.

  5. To develop an assessment plan based on the results of this initial session.

Evaluation and Report Writing

Type of meeting: In person

Duration: 1 or 2 sessions of 50 minutes each and 2 hours for report writing

 

Main objective: To assess the child's functional abilities using standardized clinical tools.

 

Specific objectives:

  1. Free observation of the child in different contexts (play, interaction, guided tasks).

  2. Administration of standardized tests according to the area being assessed: fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, autonomy.

  3. Report writing (2 weeks): Analysis and interpretation of strengths and challenges, summary of the overall profile, and recommendations (therapy goals, interventions, follow-up, referrals, strategies for home or school).

Feedback meeting (Optional)

Meeting type: Virtual

Duration: 30 minutes

 

Objective: To explain the results to parents, discuss the strategies and recommendations in detail, and answer questions.

Therapy Sessions

Type of meeting: In person

Duration: 50 minutes of direct intervention and 10 minutes of documentation per meeting

 

Main objective: To implement an individualized intervention plan aimed at achieving the objectives identified in the assessment

 

Specific objectives:

  1. Use therapeutic activities adapted to the child's age and profile (motor games, language exercises, sensory activities, cognitive training, etc.).

  2. Observe progress and adjust objectives over time.

  3. Involve parents and teachers to ensure the generalization of acquired skills in everyday life.

  4. Document progress (progress notes, interim reports).


**The number of meetings will depend on each case, and communication will always be open with parents.
