Neuropsychological Testing in Montreal:
Testing for ADHD,  Autism, Learning Disorders and Giftedness with low wait times

What is Neuropsychological Testing?

Also sometimes called: ADHD TestingAutism TestingNeuropsychological Assessmentsor Evaluations

Neuropsychological testing—also known as neuropsychological assessment or neuropsychological evaluation—is a comprehensive process used to better understand how the brain functions in everyday life. It is commonly used for ADHD testing, autism testing, and the assessment of other neurodevelopmental and cognitive differences.

Neuropsychological testing examines the relationship between a person’s cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, and behaviors, helping to clarify strengths, challenges, and patterns that impact daily activities, work, school, and relationships.

These evaluations involve the use of standardized, evidence-based tests that assess areas such as:

  • Intellectual functioning

  • Attention and concentration (including ADHD-related profiles)

  • Memory

  • Language

  • Visuo-spatial and praxis perception

  • Executive functions (planning, organization, impulse control)

Neuropsychological assessments are conducted by licensed neuropsychologists with advanced training in psychology and neuroscience.

At Vivago, our neuropsychologist specializes in adult neurodevelopmental assessments, including:

  • ADD / ADHD

  • Autism spectrum conditions

  • Dyslexia and dysorthographia

  • Giftedness

  • Twice-exceptionality (giftedness combined with a neurodevelopmental condition such as ADHD or autism)

The results of a neuropsychological evaluation provide a clearer understanding of an individual’s cognitive profile and how it affects real-life functioning, supporting informed decisions related to accommodations, mental health care, education, and work.

Is a doctor’s referral required for neuropsychological testing in Montreal?

No. A doctor’s referral is not required to access neuropsychological testing in Montreal or anywhere in Québec. Individuals may self-refer directly for a neuropsychological assessment.

Common Reasons for Neuropsychological Testing

We are all born into our bodies and brains without an instruction manual. For many people, neuropsychological testing becomes a way to better understand how their mind and body work together—bringing clarity, validation, and peace of mind.

There are many reasons someone may seek neuropsychological testing. These assessments help clarify cognitive and emotional functioning, identify strengths and challenges, and support informed decisions about care, accommodations, and daily life.

Neuropsychological testing is commonly pursued for:

  • Autism spectrum conditions (ASD)

  • Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Specific learning disorders, such as dyslexia or dyscalculia

  • Giftedness and intellectual profiles, including twice-exceptionality

  • Cognitive changes related to aging, including Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or Parkinson’s disease

  • Post-concussion syndrome, brain injury, or memory concerns

  • Complex mental health presentations, where a clearer understanding of cognitive and emotional functioning is needed

Beyond diagnosis, neuropsychological testing offers a deeper understanding of how your brain functions in everyday life, helping individuals make sense of long-standing questions, reduce self-doubt, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
